Hello:
I will be at El Conquistador Resort & Country Club in Puerto Rico this
year.
Q: Has anyone played at this course? |
| In my previous response to you, I gave an incomplete web address for the
Golf in Puerto Rico web site. The complete address is:

Here are some tips and suggestions you will find helpful.
• Check with your airline to see if they charge excess baggage fees for golf
clubs, and how much. Typical fees are $45 each way ($90 RT). Since nearly all
the golf courses offer pro line rental clubs you may find it preferable to rent
a set of Callaway Big Bertha X-12’s than bring your own.
• It’s relatively easy to book tee times on golf courses in Puerto Rico. Your
Concierge may make the arrangements or you may call yourself. Some courses
permit advance tee times through their web sites.
• If you aren’t staying at a resort with golf, the least expensive
transportation to golf courses is by a rental car. Taxi rates should be

fare should be. Tour operators also offer round trip transfers. Some golf
courses have drivers on call that will provide transportation at attractive
rates.
• Weather in Puerto Rico is unpredictable and the conditions you s. |

Looking for golf courses in Puerto Rico on the south side between Ponce
and Mayaguez for an upcoming trip. Anyone know of any in that area? Please
email sailfish11@aol.com. |
| Continuing east of San Juan, but still in Rio Grande, is the Westin Rio Mar
(600 rooms). The beautiful Westin Hotel opened in late 1996 and the resort
features 2 golf courses. The Ocean Course is a George Fazio design that
features an ocean front par 3 into the wind that for many will require a driver
off the tee. Bring your camera and pose with the huge (and vegetarian)
iguanas. Telephone (787) 888-6000.
On the north east corner of Puerto Rico in Fajardo is the majestic Wyndham El
Conquistador (750 rooms). It’s approximately an hour from the airport. The
golf course is an Arthur Hills design and noted for its 200’ changes in
elevation, fast greens, and dramatic views that extend all the way to St.
Thomas. A 2nd golf course is planned. At certain times of the year to play
this course you have to be a guest of the hotel or of one of the other Wyndham
Hotels. Telephone (787) 863-1000. |
